A conference on Adolescent Health and Nutrition took place in the of Ghana. Organized by the Northern Regional Health Directorate, with support from various partners including Norsaac, Savana Signatures, and , the two-day conference aimed to discuss factors influencing adolescent health and nutrition, assess lessons on accessing and utilizing youth-friendly health services, and identify key interventions for implementation at various levels.

The theme of the conference was “Bridging the Care Gap in Adolescent Service Delivery: The Role of Communities and Service Providers.” Participants included stakeholders in the health sector and adolescents from the region. The conference addressed the triple burden of malnutrition faced by Ghana, including wasting, stunting, overweight, obesity, and micronutrient deficiencies. Dr Abdulai Abukari, the Northern Regional Director of Health, emphasized the importance of improving adolescent and youth-friendly services, addressing sexual and gender-based violence, and reducing gaps in access to comprehensive health care.

The conference showcased various interventions, including the Adolescent SafetyNet program, Iron Folic Acid Supplementation, and the Nutrition-Friendly School Initiative. Dr. Abukari called for continued support for the region's adolescent-targeted health programs to empower youth and shape their destinies positively. The Executive Director of Norsaac, Mr. Mohammed Awal Alhassan, highlighted the need for safe spaces where young people can access healthcare freely, citing Norsaac's initiatives in promoting adolescent safe spaces and discussions on social, mental, and sexual growth.

Alhaji Shani Alhassan Saibu, the Northern Regional Minister, stressed the collective responsibility of stakeholders to provide adolescents with the necessary support, guidance, and care to navigate the crucial phase of adolescence successfully.
