Professionals advised against sexually exploiting the vulnerable

Mr. Christopher Lartey, Principal Programmes Officer at the Department of Children, has emphasized the importance for professionals to refrain from exploiting their positions to engage in sexual activities with vulnerable individuals in society.

Speaking at a capacity-building training for the Regional Child Protection Committee in , Mr Lartey highlighted the emotional distress and loss of faith in the profession experienced by victims of such acts. He underscored the need for professionals to uphold national laws and abstain from using their authority for sexual exploitation or abuse.

Mr. Augustus Awity, Chief Director of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council, urged the Committee members to enhance their capacity to effectively carry out their mandate. He emphasized the importance of advancing and defending children's rights for the benefit of the nation.

While Ghana is among the countries implementing global programs to combat child marriage, Madam Kpe stressed the need for continued efforts, as one in five girls in Ghana currently gets married before the age of 18.
