Mr Bernard Ahiafor, Member of Parliament for Akatsi South in the Volta Region has urged traditional leaders in his constituency to work in unity for progress and development of the area.
He called for togetherness and unity of purpose across the chieftaincy terrain in the Avenor Traditional Area.
Mr Ahiafor made the appeal during a meeting with chiefs, queen mothers, community elders, and opinion leaders, held under the auspices of Togbui Dorglo Anumah VI, Paramount Chief of Avenor and President of the Avenor Traditional Council.
The meeting saw the inauguration of the Development Planning and Construction Committee by the Avenor Traditional Council to champion a long-awaited construction of a modern office complex for the Traditional Council.
In the interim, the committee has Mr Seth Aglago as convener and Mr Sylvanus Sogbey as Secretary.
Togbui Dorglo indicated at the meeting that they had acquired four acres of land at Avenorpeme for the construction of the office complex for the Traditional Council.
He also appealed to individuals and groups interested in the growth of the area, to support the project.
He encouraged parents to ensure their children, especially the girl-child, get access to school, which would enhance the human resource capacity of the area for rapid development.
Mr Kofitsey Martin Nyahe, the Municipal Chief Executive for Akatsi South, on his part, called on Avenor citizens living around the globe to contribute their quota to the development agenda for the area.
The meeting, held at the Municipal assembly hall, recorded all the chiefs and queen mothers from Avenor.
Many business and prominent personalities from the area including Mr JK Horgle, Chief Executive of JK Horgle Transport and Co Limited, also attended the meeting.
Pledges and undisclosed cash donations were received from individuals towards the commencement of the project and would be announced later.
Present at the meeting were also some assembly members and politicians.
