The Prestea Huni-Valley Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Dr Isaac Dasmani has disclosed that Appiatse’s population was about 857, thus the total number should not exceed 900 people as investigations begin.
As investigations to identify victims affected during the Appiatse explosion have started, the MCE has revealed that other relatives have joined the victims of the explosion making the population exceed its original figure.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, he said, “Now we are registering over 1000 people since some relatives of the victims have decided to join them here. We have a list of the registered individuals from the day of the incident and that would be used to distribute any items we receive.”
“We are going to ensure that the available resources are efficiently used to support those genuinely affected”, he added.

Dr Dasmani further advised the committee members to work as a team and let transparency and accountability prevail in their daily activities.
Also, a five-member committee chaired by Madam Joyce Aryee has been set up to raise funds for the victims of the explosion.
Hundreds of displaced victims have been given temporary shelter at the St. Michael’s Catholic Parish.
