Prince Harry awarded substantial additional damages in phone hacking case

Prince Harry has been granted “substantial” additional damages in his legal battle against Mirror Group Newspapers, his lawyer confirmed.

The royal had filed a lawsuit against the newspaper group, accusing them of unlawfully obtaining information to publish stories about him. In December, he emerged victorious in 15 claims, with the High Court ruling that there had been systematic phone hacking practices at Mirror newspapers.

During the latest hearing, Prince Harry's lawyer, David Sherborne, revealed that Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN) had agreed to settle the remaining aspects of the duke's claim. As part of the settlement, MGN will pay damages and cover legal costs. The Mirror group has also agreed to make a payment of approximately £400,000 in costs, with further costs to be determined later.

In response, Mirror Group Newspapers expressed satisfaction with the agreement and expressed a desire to move forward from the events that transpired many years ago.

Notably, Prince Harry was not present at the court hearing, as he had recently returned to the after visiting his father, King Charles, following the announcement of his diagnosis.

The resolution of this legal dispute marks another chapter in Prince Harry's ongoing efforts to protect his privacy and seek accountability for intrusions into his personal life by the media.
