The Socceroos of Australia picked one of the two remaining slots available for the 2022 Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) World Cup in Qatar after beating Peru on Monday morning on penalties.

Both teams displayed a high tactical approach to the game, as the action swung from one end to the other, with both goalkeepers living up to expectations with some spectacular saves to ensure a clean sheet.

This forced the game into penalty shootouts, which eventually handed Australia the slot with a 5-4 victory.

However, the hero of the game was substitute goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne who came on a minute to end the120 minutes of action, stayed for three minutes of added time and eventually saved the decisive penalty that gave Australia the qualification.

Redmayne danced throughout the goal-line earlier than diving to the fitting to cease a kick from Alex Valera and hand Australia a deserved victory on the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium.

Australia would now play in Group D at the World Cup with holders France, Denmark and Tunisia in a competition that would run from November 21 to December 18.
