Base Pharmacy, importer of pharmaceutical products, has donated sanitation tools to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to support efforts to improve waste collection and keep the city clean.
The items included 60 wheelbarrows, 80 shovels, and 20 rakes.
Mr Alfred Asiedu Adjei, the Presiding Member of the AMA, who received the equipment, expressed gratitude to the company for their support towards making the city clean and called on other institutions to emulate them.
“I want to acknowledge Base Pharmacy for these items they have given us. I would like to say that on behalf of the first female Mayor of Accra and my fellow Assembly members we are grateful to you. We believe that other institutions would follow suit because cleaning Accra is not a one-man job,” he said.
Mr Adjei, who is also the Assembly member for the Avenor electoral area, assured that the items would be equitably shared among the 20 electoral areas within the AMA and used for their intended purposes.
Mr Korankye Ankrah, a representative of Base Pharmacy, who presented the items, said the support by the company was to share in President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s vision of making Accra the cleanest city in Africa.
“Base Pharmacy upon following the activities of the AMA in keeping Accra clean we deem it fit to proudly support this agenda by donating these items,” he said, and called on the residents of the metropolis to put their shoulders to the wheel in keeping their environment clean.
The AMA, after the launch of the #BorlaInDrainsMustStopNow campaign, has so far prosecuted 115 persons for flouting the Assembly’s sanitation bylaws.
