In the Damang-Huni Valley Municipality of the Western Region, World Vision Ghana (WVG) and Gold Fields Ghana Foundation have entered into a partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The collaboration aims to enhance the Water, Health, and Sanitation (WASH) program in the area and increase access to safe water while promoting sustainability, water governance, innovative solutions, and inclusivity.
Laura Cristina Delvalle, National Director of WVG, and Abdel-Razak Yakubu, Executive Secretary for Gold Fields Ghana Foundation, signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organizations. In her address, Madam Delvalle emphasized WVG's commitment to bringing hope, joy, and justice to all children and vulnerable communities through transformative programming that addresses the root causes of poverty and injustice.
Madam Delvalle highlighted the alarming statistics of water insecurity in Ghana, with approximately 18 million people lacking access to safely managed water and a significant portion of households at risk of consuming water contaminated with faecal matter. She emphasized the need for strategic interventions to improve water access and sustainability, citing the partnership with Gold Fields Ghana Foundation as a step in the right direction.
Abdel-Razak Yakubu reiterated Gold Fields Ghana Foundation's dedication to addressing water challenges in the Damang-Huni Valley Municipality. He announced a contribution of $270,000 towards the project, emphasizing the Foundation's ongoing efforts to find lasting solutions to water scarcity in the area. Abdel-Razak praised WVG for its expertise in providing potable water and expressed confidence that the partnership would yield significant benefits for the community.
Nana Bene Mireku, Abakumahene of Wassa Damang, lauded the partnership between the two organizations, expressing optimism about the positive impact it would have on the community. He emphasized the importance of the project in providing adequate prospects for the people of Damang-Huni Valley.
Both World Vision Ghana and Gold Fields Ghana Foundation have a history of supporting communities in various sectors, including water, sanitation, health, education, agriculture, and infrastructure development. Through this partnership, they aim to empower communities and improve the quality of life for residents in the Damang-Huni Valley Municipality.
