Bright Nyampong, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Youth Organizer for Obuasi West, has urged the government to withhold planned development projects from the people of Assin North as a punishment for voting against the NPP candidate in the recent by-election.
Expressing his disappointment, Nyampong criticized the residents of Assin North for their lack of gratitude towards the government's development initiatives in their constituency.
He stated that their decision to vote against the NPP candidate, Charles Opoku, signifies a disregard for the progress and achievements brought about by the ruling party.
During an interview on Wontumi TV, Nyampong suggested that all machinery and construction materials earmarked for Assin North should be redirected to the Ashanti region, where the NPP enjoys strong support.
He emphasized that the Ashanti region has consistently shown appreciation for the NPP and called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the government to prioritize development in that area.
Nyampong viewed the residents' support for James Gyakye Quayson of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as a rejection of the NPP's efforts to include Assin North in its development agenda.
In the by-election, Quayson emerged as the winner with 57.56% of valid votes, securing his return to Parliament.
Charles Opoku of the NPP came in second with 42.15% of valid votes. The turnout for the election was reported to be high at 74.23%.
Nyampong's comments reflect his disappointment and frustration with the outcome of the by-election, suggesting a desire to withhold development projects from Assin North as a consequence of voting against the NPP candidate.
