Charles Osei Asibey announces interest in AFA Presidential race
ShareTweetSend

Mr Charles Osei Asibey, president of Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF) and Deputy General Secretary of the Armwrestling Federation of Africa (AFA), has announced his decision to contest the forthcoming AFA presidential race.

Mr Osei Asibey who has been a top figure when it comes to Armwrestling on the continent would go into contention with Mr. Samuel Jackson, the current Vice President of AFA.

Following his contribution to the development of sports and expertise in African sports, the gallant sports personality had served in some top federations and associations and was still serving on other boards.

Attaining the position of the General Secretary of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), former Communications Director of the Ghana Olympic Committee and former Board Member of the Ghana Weightlifting Federation.

Known in the sports media circle as “The Barrister”, Mr Asibey founded the Ghana Armwrestling Federation in 2016 and has since helped the Federation in attaining higher heights in terms of being one of the fastest-growing Federations in the country.

The President of GAF has since received several commendations from some bigwigs in Ghana and the world at large after he led Ghana to host the never-forgetting Africa Armwrestling Championship in 2018 which the World Armwrestling Federation (WAF) touted as the best-ever championship on the African continent.

He is currently playing a key role in the organisation of the forthcoming 2022 African Armwrestling Championship which would take place next month in Lagos, Nigeria.

Mr Asibey would be the first Ghanaian to occupy the AFA presidency and serve as the Vice President of the World Armwrestling Federation when given the nod.
