Digitization drives today’s global economy – Justina Marigold Assan, C/R Minister

Mrs Justina Marigold Assan, the Central Regional Minister, said the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) are the driver of the current global economy and, therefore, Ghana's initiative to go completely digital must  not be downplayed.

“The world is now experiencing an era of shifts and competition in the global labour market, which are propelled by digitalisation at its peak and with sophisticated information system and Ghana cannot be sidelined in this progress,” she said.

Mrs Assan was speaking at this year's Annual Conference of the Controller and Accountants General's Department (CAGD) held in .

The three-day conference, on the theme: “The Role of CAGD in Advancing the Digitalisation Agenda of Ghana,” assembled selected accounts staff from the metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies among other departments to assess the performance of the CAGD and proffer solutions to its operational challenges.

Also in attendance were a number of dignitaries from the private and public sectors including seasoned accountants and financial management experts.

The Minister said it was important for all to understand the digitalisation process by getting the requisite orientation and needed ICT skills and technical know-how to be able to maintain efficiency to sustain national development.

Governance was increasingly becoming electronically functional hence the need for public service workers to actively get involved to digitise all aspects of the economy for transparency and accountability, she said.

Mrs Assan commended the staff of the CAGD for their enormous support to Government in the management of resources and the fight against .

To the Department, she said its innovative practices in a dynamic world of digitalisation powered by ICT to enhance its operations was worth applauding and emulating by all.
