Electoral Commission maintains filing fees for 2024 elections, announces election plan

The (EC) has declared that the filing fees for the upcoming 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections will remain unchanged from those charged during the 2020 polls. Presidential candidates will be required to pay GH¢100,000, while parliamentary candidates will pay GH¢10,000.

This decision comes after significant backlash received by the EC during the 2020 polls when it raised the filing fee for presidential candidates from GH¢50,000 to GH¢100,000. The 100% increase was criticized as excessively high. However, the Deputy Chairman of the , Dr. Bossman Eric Asare, defended the increase, stating that it aligns with the value of the currency.

In a joint communiqué issued after an (IPAC) meeting, the EC affirmed its decision to maintain the filing fees, acknowledging the contributions made by the leaders of political parties in the Plan.

The EC also announced that it will maintain the use of indelible ink during the elections and revealed that the Limited Voter Registration Exercise will take place for a period of 21 days, starting from May 7th to May 27th, 2024. The exercise will be conducted at the District Offices of the Electoral Commission and in difficult-to-access Electoral Areas.
