Togbi Nyaho Tamakloe VI, Paramount Chief of Kome-Shime and Miafiaga of Anlo has volunteered to lead a fundraiser to support Sunset Sports Keta’s impending Beach Soccer Worldwide World Winners’ Cup competition.
The reigning African Beach Soccer Club champions and three-time-winners of the Ghanaian championship in four seasons have set eyes on the world event scheduled to take place in Fuerteventura, Spain in April 2022.
Chief Executive Officer of Sunset Sports, Keta and Vice Chairman of the Ghana Beach Soccer Clubs Union, Mr Dzidodo Ruben Adjahoe disclosed to the Ghana News Agency that Togbi Tamakloe, Dufia of Whuti, youth development and sports enthusiast resolved to lead the fundraiser.
He would champion efforts to see the Keta-based club appear on the global stage following news of the club’s interest and need for support to participate in the competition.
He welcomed the gesture and described discussions with Togbi as “very fruitful” expressing hope that ìthe efforts of the respected traditional leader of the Anlo Kingdom will yield very positive results.
“The club is very lucky at this important period in our growth to get support from His Majesty especially at the point we need all the funding we can get to play in the world clubs” championship.
“It’s been our dream to play on the global stage and with the support and unflinching support from our chief, weíre very confident our dreams will be a reality. Our chief is in support of our ambitions and every discussion we’ve had has been very positive.”
Mr Adjahoe indicated that a fundraising team would be put in place to complement the efforts of the former Edmonton Police Commissioner.
“His Majesty as we understand is very committed to helping us get to play in Spain and we are very appreciative of the effort. Tobi has equally demanding responsibilities as well, so we are looking to identify other prominent people from our area to support him in this regard.”
Sunset Sports Keta, Ghana’s most successful beach soccer club is seeking to raise about US$100,000 to enable the team to make the maiden appearance on the world stage.
