North Tongu MP Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has raised serious concerns about Vice President Bawumia and his family allegedly benefitting from overpriced single-sourced contracts. The claims are based on a damning report from the Auditor-General, revealing irregularities in the awarding of cocoa road contracts since 2020.
According to the report, a staggering 87% of cocoa road contracts awarded during this period were done through a non-competitive process, with some contracts showing no value for money. This contradicts the ruling New Patriotic Party's (NPP) promise in 2016 to end the era of sole sourcing.
The controversy deepens as Resources Access Limited, a company with familial ties to Vice President Bawumia, is implicated in receiving two lucrative single-sourced cocoa road contracts on July 2, 2020. Owned by Abraham Bawumia, the Vice President's brother, and Aneta Kaminska Bawumia, the company allegedly secured contracts valued at a total of GH¢83.7 million.
The contracts awarded to Resources Access Limited include the upgrading of Effutu – Abrem Agona and Effutu – Sorodofo Feeder Road (21.39km – Central Region) at GH¢54,262,878.84, and the upgrading of Kyiboso Hasowodze Bungalow, Feeder Road (14.50km – Central Region) at GH¢29,468,546.54.
