A senior police officer, Detective Chief Inspector Amoah, has successfully arrested Godfred Atteh Otumi, a site officer previously sentenced to two years in prison in absentia by Circuit Court Two in Accra. Otumi, convicted on a charge of defrauding by false pretences, had sold a parcel of land at Tse Addo for GH¢150,000, a property that did not belong to him.
Despite being sentenced in absentia, Otumi resurfaced at the court premises on Wednesday for another matter before Circuit Court Nine. The prosecutor, Chief Inspector Amoah, acting promptly, caused Otumi's arrest. The trial judge at Circuit Court Nine, Mr Bright Samuel Bright Acquah, remanded Otumi in police custody, directing a speedy trial before subsequent transfer to Nsawam.
The specific case before Circuit Court Nine involves Otumi allegedly collecting GH¢120,000 and GH¢144,000 from individuals under the pretext of securing them plots of land at Tse Addo. Otumi is accused of conspiring with Alhaji Muntaka, who is currently at large. The charges include conspiracy and two counts of defrauding by false pretences. Otumi has pleaded not guilty.
The trial for this case is set to resume on February 5, 2024. The arrest by Detective Chief Inspector Amoah highlights the commitment to justice and accountability in cases of fraud and false pretences.
