A panel discussion held during the Codetrain Africa Tech Career Seminar in Accra has highlighted the importance of founders and owners of technology companies offering attractive packages to retain and develop employees in the industry.
Additionally, creating a flexible work environment to enable staff to deliver at their best was emphasized.
The event, which saw about 96 participants demonstrating various mobile and software applications developed to solve real-life problems, also delved into the factors that help employers attract top talents and how job seekers can secure dream jobs in local and international technology firms.
The panel discussion included key figures in the industry, such as Mr. Kelvin Nyame, CEO of Meqasa; Selasie Anani, Chief Technology Officer at Mpharma; Mr. Kena Amoah, CEO of MITA; and Mr. Ishak Abubakar, CEO of Gitcal.
They shared their insights, and it was agreed that passion, hard work, and vision were essential traits owners of tech companies look for in potential recruits.
The panel stressed that an accommodating workspace could help tech professionals unleash their creativity and hidden potentials. Mr. Ishak Abubakar offered valuable advice to those seeking tech jobs, emphasizing the importance of having a good portfolio.
He stated, “Lack of experience is no longer an excuse in the technology industry. Your portfolio gives a sneak peek into what you can do.”
Mr. Kena Amoah suggested that owners of tech companies should consider their staff as business partners rather than just employees, fostering a sense that the employees' contributions are crucial to the business's success.
Good communication skills were deemed important by Mr. Anani, and Mr. Kelvin Nyame underlined the significance of building a work environment that helps employees make the right decisions and stay motivated.
Graduates were encouraged to position themselves as individuals willing to learn and showcase their career vision during interviews.
The tech companies were urged to uphold quality standards and best practices, while individuals in the industry were advised to avoid unethical behavior, which can negatively impact business owners.
