Ghanaian boxer, Shakul Samed has been suspended from the ongoing Commonwealth Games after being caught in an anti-doping rule violation.
The 23-year-old prior to his match against Mauritius boxer, Luc Jean Rosalba failed a dope test having tested positive for a banned masking agent named Furosemide.
The drug is mostly known to be a treatment for persons with liver or kidney diseases and is sometimes used to treat persons with high blood pressure.
A statement released by the Commonwealth Games Federation said, “the Commonwealth Games Federation Anti-Doping and Medical Commission has confirmed that the sample of Shakul Samed, a boxer from Ghana, violated anti-doping rules for the 2022 Commonwealth Games”.
It added that the boxer’s sample was found to contain a prohibited substance and has therefore been suspended with immediate effect.
The boxer would now have the opportunity to provide further information, including requesting an analysis of his B sample before any charge would be issued against him.
The light heavyweight boxer, who has represented Ghana on many occasions would be looking forward to providing the needed information to the Commonwealth Games Federation.
