The Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) have concluded a 12-day Training of Trainers (TOT) workshop in Kyebi, Eastern Region.
The workshop aimed to equip 50 skilled instructors in information and communication technology (ICT) to train individuals with visual impairments.
Participants included managers of Community ICT Centres (CICs), regional GIFEC managers, and teachers from the Ghana Blind Union.
Mr. Amoako Atta, Eastern Regional Manager of GIFEC, revealed plans to train around 200 visually impaired individuals in basic computer skills across the 16 regions of Ghana. The training, set to commence in the second week of February, will span 60 days.
Basic skills to be taught include computer accessibility, keyboard usage, Microsoft Office applications, mobile phone and social media usage, and email creation.
These initiatives, organized annually by GIFEC and ITU, aim to enhance digital capacities nationwide.
The training aligns with the ongoing Digital Transformation Centres (DTC) project, fostering ICT inclusion and empowerment for all.
