Ave Dakpa Crocodile Resort reopens after temporary closure

The Akatsi North District Assembly has announced the reopening of the Ave Dakpa Crocodile Resort after it was temporarily shut down in January 2021 following an incident involving a female tourist being attacked by a crocodile on December 20, 2020.

The incident occurred when a female tourist, engaged in activities with a group of local tourists and taking photos with one of the reptiles, allegedly breached safety protocols, resulting in some level of injury.

Initially opened for commercial operation in September 2020, the Resort's temporary closure had a significant impact on the revenue outlay of the Assembly.

Under the leadership of Dr Prince Sodoke Amuzu, the Assembly conducted investigations into the incident and identified security lapses that required urgent attention. It was revealed that neither the guests nor the tour guide reported the incident to the Assembly for redress.

In preparation for the reopening, Mr Simon Peter Kofi Ofosu, the District Chief Executive of Akatsi North, and Madam Ruby Sitsope Besagah, District Coordinating Director, led staff in cleaning the Resort. The Assembly worked with state agencies to ensure all safety protocols were met, including having trained tour guides, creating safety buffers, and obtaining necessary permits.

Mr. Ofosu extended an invitation to tourists, particularly during the Easter period, promising a fun-packed and exciting adventure. The Resort will charge varying rates for entry, ranging from GH₵3.00 to GH₵50.00 depending on age, student status, group size, and nationality.

With safety measures in place, the Ave Dakpa Crocodile Resort aims to provide visitors with an enjoyable and secure experience amidst the natural beauty of the region.
