Reverend Isaac Owusu, the National President of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), has commended teachers for supporting the Association’s leadership in the successful fight for the Cost-of-Living Allowance (CoLA).
He appealed to them to join forces and unite to resist oppression from any government and authority.
The five-day training provided in-service training for 161 teachers drawn from deprived areas within the Northern, Savannah and North East Regions.
It was aimed at equipping teachers with professional knowledge and skills to improve teaching and learning using the teachers’ standard-based curriculum and specific topics.
Reverend Owusu indicated that members of GNAT made it possible for the Association to fight for what was due to the over 700,000 public service workers in the country, saying “We were successful because we allowed the structures to work.”
He said the CoLA agenda was successful due to the solidarity of its grassroots members and the GNAT leadership and urged members to respect the Association’s structures to enhance subsequent achievements.
He said, “Looking at the solid organisational structure GNAT has, no authority or government will take us for granted if we obey the structures.”
