GPL: Bottom place Kotoku Royals completes comeback to beat Berekum Chelsea 2-1
ShareTweetSend

Kotoku Royals recorded their second win of the season with an impressive comeback performance over Berekum Chelsea in a 2-1 drama at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Friday.

Two quick goals from Edward Mensah and Richard Dzikoe in the 31st and 35th minutes respectively were enough for the Oda-based side to pick up the all-important win as Kalo Ouattara also got on the scoresheet for the visitors.

Coach John Eduafo’s side was made to pay for their wastefulness early in the first half of the game as Ouattara fired in a shot, which was denied by the woodwork to put his side ahead in the ninth minute.

Kotoku Royals after falling behind came back into the game to keep the pressure high on the visitors hoping to get an equalizer with their long crosses.

After minutes of knocking, the Royals finally broke the defense of their opponents to give Edward Mensah an advantage as he slotted in a long shot outside the 18- yard box to give his side the equalizer in the 31st minute of the game.

The homers were up to the task of once again finding the net, giving Dzikoe no choice that to tap in a beautiful cross from the left wings to get them in the lead four minutes after getting the equalizer.

After all the effort gets a second goal, Berekum Chelsea could not find their way out as the first half ended 2-1 in favour of Kotoku Royals.

The second half of the game kicked off with Kotoku Royals who were solid upfront, sending in balls into the half of the visitors, but could not make any good use of the chances created.

The homers kept on tormenting their opponents, using the left wings as an easy route to break the midfield of Berekum Chelsea with a quick passing sequence.

Berekum Chelsea despite being down by a goal held the attack of Kotoku Royals who after several attempts, were not solid enough to increase their margin.  Centre referee, Fuseini Alfaa Ba-Adey after an additional six minutes ended the game as Kotoku Royals went up by seven points hoping to make it out of the relegation zone.
