COVID-19: Active cases decline in one week

The Ghana Health Service has announced a decrease in new COVID-19 cases in the past week as active cases dropped from 1,207 on July 02 to 606 on July 09.

According to data from the GHS, the COVID-19 portal showed that three death cases were recorded in the last week raising the death toll to 1,456.

The GHS also confirmed that there were 11 severe cases and two in critical condition, currently on admission to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Correspondingly, the number of new cases recorded in the last week has also reduced from 51 to 32 cases.

Statistics from the portal again proved that 997 persons have recovered from the virus, bringing the total recoveries to 165,153.

This regional distribution of active cases shows that the Greater Accra Region had the largest number, despite a drop from 805 to 182 in the previous week.

Similarly, the number of active cases in the Western Region surged dramatically in the previous week, from 18 to 154.

The rest of the regions recorded lower cases with Eastern Region recording 103 cases, 52 cases in the Bono Region, 46 in the Ashanti Region and 22 in the Upper East Region.

The rest of the regions recorded cases below 15 with the Ahafo Region recording 14 cases, 12 cases in Oti Region, 11 in the Volta Region and 10 cases in the Central Region.

There were no cases recorded in the Bono East Region, Northeast Region, Northern Region, Upper West Region, Western North Region, Savannah Region and among International Travelers.

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), according to the World Health Organization (WHO), is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Most people infected with the virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment.

However, some will become seriously ill and require medical attention.

Signs and symptoms of COVID-19, include fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty in breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, loss of taste or smell and sore
throat.
