Chris Hughton is an Irish-Ghanaian football manager with high hopes of winning a contract on a Black Stars coaching job.

The 63-year old has a vast amount of experience in the football arena since he has managed a number of England football clubs including Nottingham Forest, Newcastle United, Norwich City and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Chris Hughton’s coaching career

In 1993, Hughton began his coaching career with former club Spurs but was truncated in 2008 when Newcastle appointed him as a coach but parted ways in 2010 and took over as head of Birmingham City. Norwich City required the services of Hughton in the Premier League but he was dismissed in April 2014 and secured another appointment in Brighton the same year. 2018/19, but he was relieved of his duties at the end of the season.

Black Stars coach hopeful

On January 28, 2022, reports circulated in the Ghanaian media landscape that Christ Hughton had arrived in the country eyeing the position as Black Stars’ new coach. This has sparked some positive reactions from Ghanaians. According to netizens, Hughton will be the best fit because there would be no interference from corrupt executive committee members of the Football Association while others held the view that he had a good CV.

Meanwhile, the GFA’s executive council has different options for the job according to unconfirmed reports. Names such as the Borussia Dortmund assistant coach Otto Addo, Aston Villa youth coach George Boateng and former Cameroon assistant coach Ibrahim Tanko are among the list of people yet to be considered for the coaching job.

Earlier reports indicate that Chris Hughton will therefore meet with the executive council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) during his time in the country. According to Joy Sports, a high ranking member of the government is pushing for the appointment of the former Norwich City manager as the next head coach of the senior national team.

This comes after Milovan Rajevac was sacked after the abysmal performance of the national team at AFCON 2021. The Black Stars was evicted at the Group stages with one point after a 3-2 defeat to Comoros. This is the first time since 2006 that the Black Stars have been evicted from the AFCON in the group stages.

Chris Hughton’s football career

Chris Hughton is an ex-footballer who played for Tottenham Hotspur from the year 1979 to 1990, he also played for the Republic of Ireland as a home team for some time. Thereafter, he played at West Ham United for two years and Brentford for one season. He retired as a professional footballer in the year 1993.
