The Accra Regional Police Command on Thursday received a complaint that some tigers were being kept in a residential neighbourhood in Accra.
The Police, in a preliminary investigation, established that a resident in a gated community at Osu was keeping two tigers under lock in a cage in a house.
Mr Freedom Jacob Caesar, a businessman, has confirmed keeping the seven-month-old cats.
He explained to journalists that the move was to enhance the tourism potential of Ghana.
An earlier statement from the Police said a special police team had been deployed to provide adequate security in the affected neighbourhood to ensure the safety of residents until the animals were relocated.
The statement thanked members of the public for bringing the matter to their attention.
It said whiles investigations continued, all residents within the community should remain calm as the Police worked with other stakeholders to ensure their safety.
