Diploma in Education graduates seek intervention over NTC's exam exclusion

A coalition of Diploma in Education graduates from various education and colleges of education across Ghana has expressed their grievances towards the 's (NTC) decision to prohibit fresh Diploma in Education graduates from participating in the 2023 NTC Examination while allowing only resitters.

In a letter addressed to the relevant authorities, the coalition has called for urgent intervention to postpone this decision.

The Diploma in Education graduates encompass various specializations, including Diploma in Science Education (DSE), Diploma in Mathematics Education (DME), Diploma in (DBE), Diploma in Early Childhood Education (DECE), and Diploma in Psychological Foundations of Education (DPF).

The coalition highlights several factors that have led to their current situation. Firstly, due to the global pandemic and strikes by the University Association of Ghana (), the graduation dates for the last batch of Diploma in Education graduates were postponed to the year 2023.

Consequently, these graduates have not had the opportunity to write any of the NTC's examinations.

Additionally, some Diploma in Education graduates were unable to participate in the 2022 examinations due to financial constraints and other reasons. Thus, they have never had the chance to take any of the NTC's examinations either.

Furthermore, in April 2022, the University of organized special Incomplete (IC) and resit papers for affected students to facilitate their smooth transition from colleges of education to degree programs.

However, the results were communicated in December 2022, leaving the affected graduates with no opportunity to write any of the NTC's 2023 examinations.

The NTC's decision to exclude recently graduated Diploma in Education holders from participating in the 2023 examinations has resulted in a predicament for these aggrieved graduates.

The coalition claims that the NTC has instructed not to upload the particulars of Diploma in Education graduates onto their portal, effectively denying them employment opportunities.

In their letter, the coalition urgently appeals for intervention to ensure that fresh Diploma graduates can participate in the 2023 examinations, thereby keeping their chances of employment alive.

They stress the pressing nature of their appeal as the NTC registration is currently ongoing for the second time this year, and they are still unable to register.

The coalition awaits a favourable response to their plea for intervention, acknowledging the significance of the NTC's registration process and its impact on their employment prospects.
