‘Instill nation’s cultural values into your children’, Chiraahemaa urges parents

Nana Yeboah Pene II, Queen-mother of Chiraa in the Sunyani West Municipality of Bono Region, has advised parents to groom the younger generation with the nation’s cultural values for them to become responsible adults.

She said if parents consciously imparted society’s ethics to their children, they would be conducting themselves with proper ethical practices as guidance and become assets and not liabilities to their families, communities, and the country in future.

Nana Pene II gave the advice when speaking at the opening of the maiden ‘Meko Bono ‘ homecoming and festival in Sunyani.

It was organised on the theme ”Unifying Our People for Development through Tourism and Culture” by the ‘Bonnie’, a local event organisation promoting the socio-cultural and economic development of the ‘Bonos’ in collaboration with the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, Sunyani Traditional Council, Bono Regional Coordinating Council, Centre for National Culture, and the Ghana Tourism Authority.

The event brought together chiefs and queen mothers, the clergy, and other professionals of diverse socio-economic backgrounds from the Bono and Bono East regions who displayed their culture and tradition through their costumes while dancing to the tune of traditional music and drumming to the admiration of the crowd.

Nana Pene II stated that the present-day children and youth being described as future leaders implied that they must be well-trained now academically and professionally against the background of the nation’s cultural values to possess the requisite knowledge and skills to be able to effectively manage the affairs of the country.

Nana Kwabena Ofori II, the Abakomahene of Awua-Dumase who presided commended the organisers for such an initiative which among others sought to exhibit and teach the rich Ghanaian culture and tradition.

He said most Ghanaians had little knowledge about their culture and tradition, hence such events would help particularly the youth to learn about the norms and values of their customs and traditions to counter the psycho-social challenges confronting them by foreign cultures and modernism.

Nana Osei Kyeretwie Duako, the Chief of Adomako in the Sunyani Municipality emphasised the importance of unity to propel the progress of the region.
