The residents of Kobedi, near Chiraa in the Sunyani West Municipality, have appealed to corporate entities, philanthropists, and non-governmental and charitable organisations to construct male and female communal toilets for them.
They told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that “life is uncomfortable because of lack of toilet facilities in the community”.
According to Pastor Wilberforce Amoah, an opinion leader and the local Pastor of the Deeper Life Bible Church, most adult residents defecate in nearby bushes and refuse dumps while children eased themselves in open places.
He said because the majority of the households had no toilets, tenants who could not go out at night had no option but to defecate in polythene bags, a situation which had worsened the poor hygienic condition in the area.
Pastor Amoah bemoaned the community had made several appeals to the Municipal Assembly, but nothing had been done to address the problem.
He, therefore, pleaded with not only the non-governmental organisations and other public-spirited wealthy individuals but the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo through Madam Justina Owusu-Banahene, the Bono Regional Minister, to intervene for the Municipal Assembly to act urgently to save them from that “big social and health challenge”.
