Mr Alexander Akwasi Acquah, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Akim Oda constituency, has responded to the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health’s call to step up a nationwide campaign to vaccinate all Ghanaians against COVID-19.

Dr Nana Ayew Afriyie, the Chairman of Parliament’s Health Committee, said in a statement on July 20, 2022, that the campaign was necessary due to low COVID-19 vaccination coverage across the country.

In response, Mr Acquah told Ghana News Agency that he was working with members of the constituency health committee and the Birim Central Municipal Health Directorate to ramp up the campaign.

He has so far visited a number of churches, including Presbyterian Church in Akim Aboabo, Christ Apostolic Church in Akim Oda Old Town, Bethel Methodist Church in Akim Aboabo, and Ascension Presbyterian Church in Akim Oda.

“We will continue in the subsequent days to get the majority of people, especially in the rural communities, on board the vaccination exercise,” he said.

He urged people to dispel myths and misconceptions about the COVID-19 vaccine and get the jabs to help prevent the virus from spreading further.

He said on July 28, 2022, Birim Central Municipal Health workers would visit individuals in marketplaces and various communities to vaccinate the unvaccinated.

The MP reminded the public to bring their Ghana cards with them when getting vaccinated and urged them to continue following the COVID-19 protocols, which include wearing nose masks, frequently washing hands under running water with soap, and hand sanitising.
