In collaboration with the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese (AAK) District Education Directorate, teacher unions have awarded several individuals for their outstanding contributions to quality education in the district.
The awardees included nine teachers, a headmaster, 18 retirees, 10 philanthropists, one national service person, the best school, and two special awards.
The district chose the theme “Teachers at the Heart of Quality Education” for the celebration.
World Teachers Day, instituted by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on October 5, is dedicated to honoring and celebrating educators worldwide.
The day focuses on evaluating, appreciating, and enhancing the work of teachers across the globe.
Mr. Kingsley Kofi Karikari Bondzie, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer at the Coastal Development Authority (CoDA), emphasized the need to motivate teachers, especially those in remote villages who make up around 90 percent of the district's educators.
He pledged his commitment to award teachers and retirees who have significantly contributed to quality education in the district.
As a trained teacher himself, Mr. Bondzie urged teachers to continuously improve their teaching skills through courses and other programs, highlighting the positive impact such efforts have on the delivery of quality education to students.
Mrs. Dorcas Brenda Asare, the District Director of Education, expressed appreciation for the awardee teachers and their contributions to education in the district.
She encouraged teachers to adopt innovative teaching methods and strategies to enhance student comprehension.
The Education Director also emphasized the importance of ensuring that all children have access to education and urged parents to prioritize their children's education.
Prof. Nana Okatakyi Amanfi VII, the Chief of Asebu, commended the district's teachers for their hard work and dedication, which have improved education in the area.
He encouraged teachers to stay informed about developments in the education sector, particularly in information technology.
To support the program's sustainability, the Chief donated GH¢2,000.00. Additionally, Mr. Elvis Morris Donkor, the Member of Parliament (MP) for AAK, expressed his appreciation for the teachers' selfless dedication to their profession and donated GH¢3,000.00 toward the program's sustainability.
He also offered one plot of land in Asebu to the district's overall best teacher.
Ms. Henrietta Nyarkoh, a teacher at Baiden Walker A&B Primary School, received the distinction of being the overall Best Teacher in the district.
