Tetteh Mawusi, a 38-year-old trader known as Joy Mawusi, has been remanded into prison custody by the Kwamekrom District Court for alleged murder and the use of an offensive weapon. His plea was not taken, and he is scheduled to reappear in court on May 14, 2024. Meanwhile, his accomplice, Apreseh Joseph, also known as Dompey, remains at large.
According to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Seth-Vincent Kpodo, who prosecuted the case, the complainant was an Assemblyman of Nkonya Nstumuru, while Tetteh resided in Alavanvo Wudidi. The incident in question occurred on August 1, 2022, around 7:00 AM, when Daniel Yaw Brempong, aged 33 and now deceased, was ambushed and fatally shot on his way to his farm by Tetteh and others who are currently fugitives.
Upon receiving the report, the police visited the scene and found the deceased lying in a pool of blood with gunshot wounds on the right side of his stomach. The body was then taken to Kpando Margaret Marquart Catholic Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy. The medical examination indicated “penetrating chest trauma secondary to possible gunshot injury” as the cause of death.
Investigations revealed that Tetteh, along with Apreseh Joseph and others from Alavanyo Kpeme and Wudidi, ambushed and killed the deceased. During a search of Tetteh's room, two locally manufactured weapons were found, and forensic testing confirmed that the empty cartridges recovered from the crime scene matched one of the weapons found in Tetteh's possession.
Following the Attorney General's advice, Tetteh Mawusi and Apreseh Joseph were charged with murder, while other suspects were discharged due to lack of evidence connecting them to the crime. Tetteh was apprehended on March 22, 2024, at his hideout in Gbefi near Kpando, based on police intelligence.
As the legal proceedings continue, the case underscores the gravity of violent crimes and the commitment of law enforcement agencies to ensure justice for victims and their families.
