Attorney-General clarifies status of Ahmed Suale murder investigation

The Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, , has provided clarification regarding the investigation into the of investigative journalist, Ahmed Suale, stating that his office has not yet received any prosecutable docket or action concerning the case.

According to the Minister, while investigations into Suale's are ongoing, four suspects initially detained to assist in the inquiry were later released on police enquiry bail after eyewitnesses failed to identify them.

Suale met a tragic end on January 16, 2019, when he was killed by two unidentified individuals on a motorbike with a covered license plate. The incident occurred in Madina as Suale was returning from a family meeting.

During a recent parliamentary session, Minister emphasized that Suale's murder remains one of many pending cases. He highlighted that the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the is handling the matter, but as of now, no document suitable for prosecution has been presented to his office.

Addressing the issue, Mr Dame stated, “Several cases are pending in court and I will begin with the murder of Ahmed Suale. It is worthy to know that it is a matter being investigated by the criminal investigations department of the . No docket or document fit for prosecution has been built and presented to my office since the murder.”

He further revealed discussions held with the former inspector of police, James Oppong-Boanuh, expressing concern about the unresolved case. Minister Dame inquired about the state of investigations into the matter and requested a report on the case, which the director general of CID obliged to provide.
