Ministry of Education dismisses Mahama's WASSCE cheating allegations, emphasizes academic progress: Ghana News

The (MoE) has refuted allegations made by former President regarding cheating during the 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination ().

The MoE assured the public that the quality of education and examinations, including the , remains uncompromised.

In response to Mahama's comments, the Ministry stated that his remarks were a “calculated attempt to downplay the great strides made by the Ministry in improving learning outcomes in the country.”

The MoE urged stakeholders to ignore Mahama's comments and emphasized the significant progress in WASSCE results, citing a notable improvement from a 28.7 percent score (A1-C6) in Integrated Science in 2015 to an impressive 66.80 percent achieved by 2023 WASSCE candidates under President Nana Akuffo Addo.

“We have made monumental progress, and over the past few years, WAEC has instituted several measures to curb exam malpractices during the and WASSCE test administration,” the Ministry asserted.

They highlighted the strict supervision measures implemented by WAEC in collaboration with the , ensuring the integrity of the examinations.

Former President Mahama, during his ‘Building Ghana Tour' in the Mfantseman constituency, alleged cheating during the WASSCE, claiming that some invigilators assisted students in answering questions. He warned of future ramifications for the nation due to these alleged malpractices.

“You certify these children saying they are of this standard either the or SSCE, and that child will use that certificate, go abroad to a school and they will find out that your qualification is not up to the standard you say it is,” he indicated.

The concluded its statement, reiterating its commitment to maintaining the quality of education and examinations at all levels.
