Acting National Coordinator for NCPD warns against misuse of disability funds

Mr. Joshua Addy, Acting National Coordinator of the National Council for Persons with Disability (NCPD), has issued a stern warning against the misuse of disbursed disability funds, emphasizing the detrimental impact it has on beneficiaries and the broader disability community.

Speaking during the disbursement of district assembly disability common funds, Mr Addy cautioned that the misuse of these funds not only hinders the economic independence of beneficiaries but also obstructs the opportunities available to others in need. He underscored the importance of utilizing the funds in accordance with their intended purpose, which is to foster economic independence and promote equity among persons with disabilities.

Highlighting the consequences of misusing the support, Mr Addy emphasized that failing to make good use of the funds impedes the growth of individuals with disabilities, as it perpetuates dependency rather than self-sufficiency. He urged beneficiaries to recognize the transient nature of life and the necessity of seizing opportunities to secure their livelihoods independently.

Commending those who responsibly utilize the funds, Mr. Addy encouraged them to continue their efforts in promoting self-reliance and contributing to the national economy. He cited examples of individuals who have effectively utilized the funds to live independently and support their families, thus contributing to the overall growth of the (GDP).

Addressing challenges surrounding the disbursement process, Mr Addy acknowledged delays in fund release, attributing them to verification procedures to ensure proper allocation. He emphasized the importance of maintaining accountability and transparency in fund distribution to prevent misuse and unauthorized claims.

Furthermore, Mr. Addy urged persons with disabilities to leverage existing laws and policies to advance their well-being and personal development. He reiterated the NCPD's commitment to safeguarding the interests of beneficiaries and ensuring that allocated funds are utilized appropriately for their intended purposes.
