An Accra Circuit Court has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Wiyada Senama, a therapist facing charges of embezzling GH₵340,399 belonging to his employer. Senama, who is charged with stealing, failed to appear in court, leading to the issuance of the bench warrant.
The prosecution, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Maxwell Oppong, requested the bench warrant from the court, presided over by Mr. Samuel Bright Acquah. The court subsequently issued the warrant and adjourned the case to October 17, 2023.
According to the prosecution, the complainant, Sandhayara W. Devi, serves as the Director of Lemon Grass Spa in Labone. Senama, the accused, was an employee of the complainant. The complainant and her husband employed Senama and another individual, Suparat Taresat, to work at the spa.
The incident in question occurred on November 23, 2022, when Senama and Taresat went out for entertainment and returned home at approximately 3:00 a.m. the following day.
Upon learning of this, the complainant reprimanded the employees, leading to an argument, and subsequently, both employees moved out of the complainant's premises.
On November 26, 2022, the complainant reported a theft of GH₵50,000 at a local police station. Subsequent investigations led the police to contact Senama and Taresat for assistance. These investigations revealed that Senama was in charge of the company's finances.
An audit of the company conducted by Samuel K. B. Asare of CFA Associates uncovered alleged embezzlement by Senama, amounting to GH₵340,359. Subsequently, the accused was cautioned by the police.
