Cotonou, Benin – The Black Queens of Ghana started the Paris 2024 Olympics Qualifiers on a high note, defeating Benin 3-0 at the Stade de l'Amitie. This first-leg victory was a testament to the Queens' impressive form and determination.
Ghana's ŽFK Spartak Subotica forward, Doris Boaduwaa, played a crucial role, contributing with goals. The Queens continued their winning streak, which had already left other African teams pondering how to stop them.
From the outset, Ghana displayed a strong attacking force, with Evelyn Badu and Boaduwaa putting immense pressure on Benin's defence.
In the 44th minute, Ghana seized the opportunity to take the lead after an infringement on Grace Asantewaa. Doris Boaduwaa executed a beautiful strike, giving Ghana the lead before halftime.
Coach Nora Häuptle's strategic substitution of Gifty Assifuah in the second half paid off, as she created several goalscoring chances against Benin's defence. Assifuah found the net twice, in the 73rd and 78th minutes, further extending Ghana's lead.
This victory puts the Black Queens in an advantageous position ahead of the second leg, which will take place at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Coach Nora Häuptle's remarkable record continues, as she is yet to concede a goal as the Head Coach of Ghana's senior side, the Black Queens, in eight games. This victory adds to her impressive coaching tenure.
