Deputy Minority Leader alleges dumsor amidst power outages: Ghana News

Mr. Emmanuel , the Deputy Minority Leader in , has raised concerns over recent power outages in parts of the country, asserting that it indicates a return to power rationing, commonly known as “dumsor.”

According to Mr. Buah, the current 500-megawatt power outage signifies the return of load shedding.

In a statement, Mr. Buah, who also serves as the Member of for , expressed his views, saying, “It is worth highlighting that even during the worst periods of ‘dumsor' in the past, the power outages never reached the 500 megawatts threshold currently being shed.”

He added that the governing New Patriotic Party () downplays the situation, dismissing it as not being “dumsor.”

Mr. Buah, the Ranking Member on Energy, attributed the power outages to the government's failure to settle debts owed to gas-supplying companies.

He criticized the lack of transparency and communication regarding the outage schedule, causing frustration and inconvenience for affected populations.

Calling for urgent action, Mr. Buah urged the Ghana Grid Company to provide a load-shedding timetable, enabling households and businesses to plan their daily activities amidst the ongoing power challenges.
