The Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) has called on Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to engage with them on the specifics of his vision for Ghana following his recent presentation.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency on Monday, February 12, Dr Humphrey Ayim-Darke, President of AGI, emphasized the importance of aligning Dr Bawumia's vision with the needs of the industry to drive government development goals forward.
While acknowledging the innovative aspects of Dr. Bawumia's vision, including leveraging natural resources to establish a new bank for the mining industry, implementing a flat tax rate, and scrapping the e-levy and VAT on electricity, Dr. Ayim-Darke stressed the importance of understanding the detailed implementation plans.
Dr. Ayim-Darke highlighted the AGI's readiness to provide expertise and data to assist in shaping policies, not only for Dr. Bawumia but for all presidential candidates. He emphasized the value of experiential knowledge in shaping economic decisions and welcomed the opportunity for industry experts to engage with Dr. Bawumia's team.
Specifically, Dr. Ayim-Darke praised Dr. Bawumia's proposed policy solutions, such as implementing a harmonization scheme at the port to curtail smuggling and creating Special Economic Zones (Free Zones) to boost economic activities and job creation in border towns.
Furthermore, he urged all presidential aspirants to prioritize intentional policies on high commercial agriculture farming to drive GDP growth and reduce forex pressures on imports.
