Seth Kwame Acheampong, the Eastern Regional Minister, has successfully submitted his nomination form to contest the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Primaries for the New Juaben North constituency. The primaries are scheduled for January 27, 2024.
Mr Acheampong, a former two-time Member of Parliament for the Mpraeso constituency, aims to secure the NPP ticket for the New Juaben North constituency.
In the 2020 Primaries, Mr Acheampong lost his bid for third re-election in the Mpraeso constituency to Mr Yaw Opoku Ansah, who went on to win the seat for the NPP. President Akufo-Addo appointed Mr Acheampong as the Eastern Regional Minister in 2021.
Addressing concerns about his eligibility to contest in the New Juaben North constituency, Mr. Acheampong asserted, “People are wondering if I have the right to contest here, I am a true royal of Koforidua-Effiduase, and so I have every right to contest to serve my people.”

The New Juaben North constituency has been a stronghold for the NPP since 1992. Notable figures like Hackman Owusu-Agyeman and Nana Adjei Boateng have held the seat, with the latter indicating he won't contest again after three successful terms.
If elected, Mr. Acheampong pledged to build on the solid foundation laid by his notable predecessors and address the needs of the constituency.
His nomination was accompanied by a large crowd of party functionaries and supporters, demonstrating strong backing for his candidacy in the upcoming primaries.
