Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire – Egypt and Ghana battled to a thrilling 2-2 draw at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in a captivating second-round clash of Group C at the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Côte d'Ivoire 2023.
Ghana took an early lead when Mohammed Kudu, introduced into the starting lineup, showcased his impact by scoring a spectacular goal. West Ham United's attacker tried his luck from distance, assisted by Abdul Salis Samed, to put Ghana 1-0 up.
Egypt, however, capitalized on a defensive lapse from Inaki Williams, allowing Omar Marmoush to round up Ghana's goalkeeper, Richard Ofori, and level the score at 1-1 in the 69th minute.
Kudus continued to shine as he swiftly restored Ghana's lead. Receiving a pass from Denis Odoi at the edge of the penalty box, Kudus curled the ball to the far post, deflecting off defenders and leaving Egypt's goalkeeper, Mohammed El Shenawy, with no chance to make the save. This goal brought Ghana ahead 2-1 in the 71st minute.
In a match of twists and turns, Egypt showcased resilience, coming from behind once again to secure the equalizer. Trezeguet Mostafa Mohammed found the back of the net in the 73rd minute, levelling the score at 2-2.
