The former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Ejisu, Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, has registered to contest in the upcoming by-election as an Independent Candidate. This decision comes amid ongoing disputes with the NPP's national leadership over issues he claims affect the fairness and integrity of the party's delegate selection process.
Aduomi voiced his concerns to the media, asserting his commitment to serving his constituency rather than personal gain. He emphasized his professional background in civil engineering, stating, “I'm not going to Parliament because I want money… I want to help my people the way I started and want to continue.”
Despite his break from the NPP, Aduomi remains philosophical about the outcome of the by-election, expressing readiness to accept the results, whatever they may be. He indicated openness to rejoining the NPP if internal practices improve, highlighting a commitment to principled politics.
In contrast, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, the Ashanti Regional chairman for the NPP, criticized Aduomi's decision, questioning the influences behind it and labelling it as disloyal. He asserted, “NPP has helped you and you cannot be disloyal to this party,” indicating a strong stance against Aduomi's independent run and suggesting possible external influences at play.
The situation presents a significant challenge for the NPP in Ejisu, as Aduomi's independent candidacy could split the party's vote and influence the broader political dynamics in the region.
