France Ambassador applauds Ghana’s commitment to providing reliable power to Northern Region

Mr. Jules Armand Aniambossou, the Ambassador of to Ghana, recently visited the Adubiliyili Substation in operated by the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo). The purpose of the visit was to engage with facility managers and evaluate their performance.

The Adubiliyili Substation, which operates at 330/161kV, serves the entire city of and facilitates the export of approximately 200MW of power to neighbouring . This critical infrastructure was constructed in 2019 as part of the 330kV - Transmission Line Project, which received funding from the Government of through the Agence Française de Developpement (AFD), with additional support from the (EU) amounting to $173.9 million.

During the tour, Mr. Aniambossou commended the collaborative efforts between France, the EU, and GRIDCo, emphasizing the significant results achieved through their partnership. He expressed admiration for Ghana's commitment to ensuring a reliable and efficient power network in the , highlighting the importance of the investment in benefiting both Ghanaians and Burkinabe.

Describing the project as one of the largest investments made by France in Ghana, Mr Aniambossou expressed satisfaction that through Ghana, France could contribute to providing electricity to .

In response, Mr Ebenezer Kofi Essienyi, the Chief Executive of GRIDCo, affirmed the company's pride in its pioneering role in Ghana's power sector. He emphasized GRIDCo's commitment to ensuring reliable electricity transmission across the country, with external collaborations and expertise playing a crucial role in strengthening the power network.

Mr. Kabral Blay-Amihere, the Board Chairman of GRIDCo, expressed gratitude to the French Government and the EU for their support, highlighting the positive impact of the project on power delivery in the northern part of Ghana and beyond.

Representing the Ministry of Energy, Mr. Daniel Boateng conveyed appreciation to France for its support to Ghana's power sector, acknowledging the significance of international partnerships in advancing the country's energy goals.
