The Sege Local Accountability Network (LANet) of the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition, in collaboration with the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), conducted an anti-corruption sensitization program for students at Prampram Senior High School. The initiative was part of the commemoration of the 2023 International Anti-Corruption Day under the theme “United the World Against Corruption.”
Mr. Godwin Dzivor, the GACC Sege LANet Focal Person, emphasized the significance of the International Anti-Corruption Day in raising awareness about corruption and highlighting individuals' crucial role in combating and preventing corrupt practices.
The theme, “United the World Against Corruption,” marked the 20th anniversary of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC). Mr. Dzivor underscored the interconnectedness of anti-corruption measures, peace, security, and development, emphasizing the collective responsibility to combat corruption across all sectors.
Mr. Bright Sowu, a Principal Staff Officer at the OSP, educated the students on the OSP Act and its mandates. He clarified that while the OSP investigates corruption and corruption-related offenses, it does not handle all cases. Cases related to fraud and economic crimes are directed to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
Mr. Sowu highlighted the importance of preventing corruption and emphasized the OSP's commitment to engaging in activities like school sensitization programs to provide students with guidelines and training on corruption and its societal effects. He stressed the significance of instilling an anti-corruption spirit in students at a young age to promote ethical behavior and discourage activities that have negative consequences for the country.
