The (GES) has officially confirmed a revision in the schedule for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination () for School Candidates (-SC) for the year 2024. According to the updated timetable, the examination will now take place from August 5 to September 27, as opposed to the previously announced dates of July 1 to August 31.

This adjustment was communicated via a circular dated March 12, 2024, addressed to regional directors and signed by Prince C. Agyemang-Duah, the acting Director of the Schools and Instructions Division of the GES. The circular instructed all heads of senior high schools (SHSs) to take note of the new dates and prepare candidates accordingly.

While no specific reason was provided for the rescheduling, it is believed to allow candidates ample time to adequately prepare for the examination. Notably, the new dates supersede any earlier communications regarding the examination schedule.

In light of these changes, Ghanaian candidates will once again undertake the Ghana Only Version of the WASSCE-SC for the third time. This decision aligns with the return of other member countries of the (WAEC) – , , , and The – to the May/June calendar after the disruptions caused by the pandemic.

John Kapi, the Head of Public Affairs of WAEC, clarified that despite the Ghana Only Version, the examination process remains unchanged, with subjects compiled by officers from outside the country and international panels overseeing marking and grading.

Moreover, Kapi assured that despite the altered examination date, results would still be released in a timely manner to facilitate candidates' transition to tertiary institutions. Registration for the WASSCE-SC commenced on March 11 and will close on April 19, 2024.

With these updates, stakeholders in the education sector are urged to take note of the revised timetable and ensure candidates are adequately prepared for the upcoming examinations.
