The (GJA) has raised concerns over the centralized information system adopted by some public service organizations, emphasizing that it hinders the nation's growth and unrestricted information flow.

GJA President, Mr. Albert Dwumfour, stated that this approach defeats the purpose of keeping grassroots-level citizens informed on development issues, particularly within Ghana's decentralization framework.

Addressing members of the Association, industry leaders, and government officials at a dinner in , Mr. Dwumfour highlighted the challenges journalists face when seeking information from public service organizations, often being directed to the capital city, .

He called for urgent action by the (MoI) to address this issue, emphasizing that meaningful development is impeded by an information vacuum.

The GJA cautioned that Ghana's decentralization program, designed to promote grassroots development and democracy, could fail if information remains highly centralized.

The dinner event aimed to foster good rapport between GJA members, professionals, public officials, businesses, the private sector, and members of the Diplomatic Corps.

Mr. Dwumfour also drew attention to the working conditions of journalists, stressing the need for stakeholders to take it seriously, as poor conditions can impact their performance.

He highlighted the financial challenges faced by media houses and individual journalists, hindering their ability to meet critical training or self-development needs.

The GJA President commended President Nana Addo Dankwa and Information Minister Mr Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah for securing Ghana the hosting rights for the Third African Media Convention in the coming year.

This convention brings together media stakeholders to reflect on trends affecting freedom of expression, media viability, sustainability, and the safety of journalists.

In response, Mr. Oppong-Nkrumah affirmed the Information Ministry's commitment to working with the GJA to advance the interests of journalists.

The (NMC), represented by Mr. George Sarpong, also attended the event to enhance solidarity between the Commission and the GJA.
