The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has issued a stern warning to the public against making prank calls to emergency services.
Despite a decrease in overall fire outbreaks in 2023, the GNFS has expressed deep concern about the surge in prank calls, particularly in the Ashanti Region.
The Ashanti Regional Fire Commander, ACFO Henry Fatai Giwah, highlighted that the GNFS control room receives more than 200 prank calls daily.
He emphasized the serious consequences of such actions, including the potential delay in responding to genuine emergencies and the risk of dispatching resources to the wrong location.
To address the issue, the GNFS has implemented measures such as calling back individuals who contact emergency services to verify the authenticity of the reported incident.
ACFO Henry Fatai Giwah stressed the importance of cooperation from the public to ensure that emergency services can respond effectively to real crises.
