Ghanaian Students' Society Celebrates Ghana's 67th Independence Anniversary in the UK

The Ghanaian Students' Society at the University of Bradford in the recently commemorated Ghana's 67th Independence Anniversary with a vibrant flag-raising ceremony at the school's peace garden. Clad in traditional Ghanaian attire such as ‘Kente and smock,' the students also symbolically planted trees to represent the resilience of Ghanaians both at home and abroad. These activities were outlined in a statement issued by the Society and shared with the (GNA) following the event.

During the ceremony, the Society took the opportunity to engage in discussions about Ghana's democracy and its role in national development. They also explored avenues for young people to actively participate in the country's growth process. Professor Richard Nyuur, the Head of the International Business, Marketing, and Strategy Department at the University, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the significance of Ghana's independence celebration.

Professor Nyuur highlighted Ghana's democratic journey, noting its contributions to the global community. He underscored Ghana's commitment to democratic principles, which has garnered respect and strengthened diplomatic relations with nations worldwide, including the , its former colonial ruler. Professor Nyuur also called for a smooth, free, and fair election in December to uphold Ghana's exemplary democratic record on the African continent.

Mr. Carl Selorm, President of the Ghanaian Students Society at the University of Bradford, reiterated the importance of unity among students studying abroad. He emphasized the need for Ghanaian students to broaden their horizons while overseas and return home to contribute to the country's development efforts. This celebration served as a platform to foster patriotism, unity, and a sense of responsibility among Ghanaian students studying in the United Kingdom.
