The Graduates and Professionals of Ga-Dangme (GPGD) convened their inaugural in-person meeting and forum, urging Ga-Dangme people to unite and actively promote their collective interests. Under the theme “Embracing Unity: Ga-Dangme Graduates and Professionals Forge Ahead,” the event aimed to galvanize efforts toward community development and progress.
Mr. Emmanuel Obodai, President of the Graduates and Professionals of Ga-Dangme, emphasized the group's objective to unite members in effecting positive change within the community. With a membership exceeding 426 individuals holding a range of qualifications from doctorates to higher national diplomas (HND), the GPGD boasts a diverse talent pool poised to contribute meaningfully to various sectors of the country.
Highlighting the importance of collective effort and commitment, Mr. Obodai stressed that Ga-Dangme individuals possess the capacity to enact significant change and elevate their community to prominence and prosperity. He called for active engagement from Ga-Dangme natives in positions of influence to provide employment opportunities and nurture talent within the community. Additionally, he urged traditional leaders and politicians of Ga-Dangme descent to prioritize education and job opportunities for their people.
Mr. Ayikoi Otoo, former Attorney General and President of the Ga-Dangme Council, commended the GPGD for their initiative in addressing community challenges and advocating for unity. He lamented the historical lack of unity among Ga-Dangmes, which has manifested in political and traditional settings, leading to divisions and conflicts. Mr. Otoo emphasized the transformative potential of education in alleviating societal challenges and urged GPGD members to serve as role models in their communities.
Nene Ogah Osuagbo I, Chief of Great Ametafor in the Osudoku Traditional Area, chaired the meeting and underscored the importance of branding Ga-Dangme culture and traditions to attract tourism and generate revenue. He advocated for active participation in politics, emphasizing its critical role in land ownership and community development. Nene Osuagbo encouraged Ga-Dangme individuals to embrace political engagement as a means to safeguard their heritage and contribute to decision-making processes that impact their communities' welfare.
The gathering concluded with a unified call for Ga-Dangme people to prioritize unity, education, and political engagement as essential pillars for community advancement and prosperity.
