Gunmen attack bus carrying nursing students in Bawku; several injured

A bus carrying approximately 45 students from the Presbyterian Nurses Training College, , fell victim to an attack by two gunmen on motorbikes near Binduri in the region.

The incident occurred on Friday afternoon as the students, who had recently vacated, were en route to .

The attackers, riding on motorbikes, ambushed the bus close to the police barrier at Binduri.

According to JoyNews' correspondent, Albert Sore, the bus came under fire during the ambush.

Several students sustained injuries and were promptly rushed to the Presbyterian Hospital for treatment.

Fortunately, there were no reported fatalities in the attack.

The Municipal Chief Executive of Bawku, Amadu Hamza, confirmed the incident and informed the public that the uninjured students had been escorted to by the Police.

In an interview with Evans Mensah on 's Top Story, Amadu Hamza expressed the challenges of security in Bawku, stating, “Bawku has just been like that, at any time or any day, someone can just get up with a gun and start firing at you. By the time the military or police get there the person is gone.”

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and local authorities are working to investigate the incident.

The attack on the bus comes amid a series of violent incidents in the region, with five reported deaths within the past 48 hours.
