Ho Technical University (HTU) has entered into a strategic partnership with Sanlam Life Insurance Ghana Limited to provide insurance coverage for students.
The agreement, signed by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ben Honyenuga and Sanlam's Managing Director and CEO, Mr. Tawiah Ben-Ahmed, aims to enhance the welfare of the student body.
The signing ceremony, held at the F.O. Kwami Council Chamber of the University, was attended by Mr. Brandsford Gidigah, Head of Procurement at the University, and Ms. Erica Boatemah Awuku, Head of Group Business at Sanlam.
Mr. Ben-Ahmed highlighted the primary objective of the agreement, stating, “The aim is to offer robust financial support to students who may face the unfortunate circumstance of losing a parent or guardian while pursuing their education.”
The comprehensive coverage includes student fees, direct payments to the institution for tuition, maintenance allowances for affected students, and coverage during internships, ensuring a holistic approach to student well-being.
Expressing Sanlam's commitment, Mr. Ben-Ahmed affirmed the company's dedication to delivering on the terms of the agreement, emphasizing Sanlam's extensive presence across 27 African countries.
He assured the University that the partnership would bring peace of mind to both University management and students.
Prof. Honyenuga praised the superiority of Sanlam's offerings, expressing confidence in the partnership's ability to provide financial safety and comfort to students, particularly as the University gears up for a new academic year. He also hinted at plans to introduce an insurance program at the university.
The ceremony, attended by Directors, the Dean of Students Affairs, and SRC executives, signifies a collaborative effort to prioritize the welfare of the student community, according to an HTU release.
