Islamic scholars and preachers in Takoradi are intensifying religious education efforts to address misconceptions about Christianity and Islam.
They aim to counteract the dilution of religious teachings with dogma or doctrinal principles.
This initiative was unveiled during a Muslim and Christian Inter-Faith DA'WAH (invitation) as part of the Tawheed DA'WAH project at the Kansaworado Central Mosque in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis. DA'WAH is a formal invitation to both Muslims and non-Muslims to learn about Islam and know Allah.
During the event, an Imam at the Mosque, Mallam Ishaq Asankoma, preached from the Holy Bible, acknowledging that Islamic scholars had been successful in converting individuals to Islam through unadulterated teachings of the Holy Qur'an and the Bible.
Drawing from passages in the books of Jeremiah and Matthew, Mallam Asankoma stated, “the kingdom of God will be taken from the Israelites and given to a nation that will use it to the glory of God.” He also explained that the prophet of Islam, Mohammed, received the Qu'ran from Allah on Mount Sinai in Saudi Arabia.
Mallam Asankoma emphasized the unique aspects of Islamic teachings, highlighting parallels with the Holy Bible, such as the practice of burying deceased Muslims in white linen, similar to the burial of Jesus Christ.
He also noted that the first pillar of Islam was the worship of Allah alone.
Mallam Yussif Adom, a Muslim youth, urged Christians and Muslims to maintain a strong relationship with Allah, emphasizing the importance of submitting to Him alone for the remission of sins.
Imam Abdul Latif Alhassan, the Chief Imam at the Kansaworado Central Mosque, explained that the TAWHEED DA'WAH Project aimed to deepen understanding of the origin and history of Christianity and Islam. Its objective is to dispel misconceptions and promote the pure and sanctified word of Allah.
During the event, Imam Alhassan also appealed to Faith-Based Organizations (FBOs), philanthropists, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), and the Office of the National Mosque to support the construction of a new and fitting Central Mosque in Kansaworado.
